i just submitted my application to local 58 for an apprenticeship for inside construction wireman. my question is this: what are the chances of getting, i know the detroit area is having a construction boom. took me about 9 months i think from my first test to my first day on the job. if you can do algebra and can read decently then do an interview you should be fine. test wasn’t very hard in my opinion but i had recently been in college so the math was still familiar. it can take a year, but it boils down to how well you do on the test. the stadium jobs first call were for detroit resident s. i just went in and did the interview part; two weeks ago. i am supposed to get a letter in the mail telling me the next step. it is timed so work thru what you know first and go back to the others after. i interviewed on the 11th.
they said it would be a couple weeks and we are going on 3+ now. i’m testing thursday for 58. did they tell you how you scored? they told you that interviews aren’t till jan? yeah i had my inside wiring interview on oct 3rd and was told i’m being placed on the list. they laughed and said good thing i didn’t call on the phone, cause all they ever tell you is “you’re on the list” lol… congrats. i didn’t finish seven questions in the math portion. the really frustrating part is that i was really good at it, i messed up because i thought the instructors would give us some type of heads up when time was almost done. of the ones i finished, i’d be shocked if i got more than one or two wrong. the ones i skipped i even had finished but wanted to go back and review them so i didn’t fill them in yet. after we took our test, me and another guy talked to one of the journeymans in the parking lot, and he basically said that it’s an apprenticeship, which means that they have to train you anyway, and all the test does is weed out the complete morons (no offense to anyone) and they don’t expect you to get everyone correct.
